Improved Cookstoves, Zambia

Improved Cookstoves, Zambia

£30 / Tonne CO2e.

Over 700 million Africans rely on inefficient open fires for cooking, a major driver of deforestation and a leading cause of household air pollution (HAP), responsible for over 4 million premature deaths annually. Rocket stoves, distributed by TASC in rural Zambia, reduce HAP by 50% and fuel use by 70%, cutting CO2 emissions by over 750,000 tonnes. TASC collaborates with local tribal authorities, training communities in stove usage and maintenance, benefitting health, gender equality, poverty reduction, and responsible consumption while creating local employment opportunities. In the initial monitoring period, 99% reported reduced smoke, 98% experienced time savings, and over 230,000 households received Improved Cookstoves. The project exemplifies positive impacts aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
